Arts for Health

Arts for Health is a project initiative to establish and enhance the relationship between the Trust and the local community using art as a medium. There is an established working partnership with the two local councils involving local communities, schools and local artists in the development of Arts for Health projects. The unique nature of the Arts for Health philosophy with its strands of health promotion, community involvement, inclusion, participation and staff development has over time enabled wider access to the arts particularly where access is restricted either due to disability, or social or cultural isolation.

Ignorance and stigma surrounding mental health in particular, continues to inhibit social and community development and art as a medium to assist in understanding. It is widely recognised that contact with people from traditionally excluded groups helps to create a greater understanding of each others difficulties. The arts enable individuals and groups to address sensitive and contentious issues in a non-threatening, creative and enjoyable way bringing together unlikely partners to the benefit of all.
